Article 28 April 7, 2006

Jeanne Seaver is an executive for a local private capital Investment Company. She is a mother of three and is very concerned with the safety of her children’s future. In her spare time she is a child advocate who has been working for almost 3 years researching Juvenile crime and how state dollars are spent on this issue.

She has identified a need for Juvenile Justice Reform both in our community and statewide. There are not enough community-based programs, children & parent programs in our community, and not enough social workers and guidance counselors in the public schools. She believes that it can take a moment to show our younger generation that, if you work hard, you can achieve your goals and dreams and must believe that no one owes you anything. If you want it bad enough you must make up your mind to go after it.

The next step in her action plan for Juvenile Justice Reform is to arrange a visit in late May or early June from the Executive Director of a Juvenile Assessment Center in Florida, where this program has been very successful. Information about the program will be presented to Juvenile Court Judges, community leaders, elected officials and social services agencies from our community. Truancy is a component of the JAC and this program would be a good start in fighting that problem with everyone’s help and support.

Please feel free to contact her @ jeanneseaver@aol.com for any information or questions.

Please take a moment to review Jeanne’s ideas, summarized in this PowerPoint presentation, about the Chatham County Juvenile Assessment Center. We think this is a great start for a great program.

We are looking for feedback from the judges, prosecutors, and police. What are the strong and weak points of the Chatham County Juvenile Assessment Center?
