As you may have found in Sunday’s edition of Savannah Morning News, Dr. Daniel Lockwood, SOS Member & Professor at Savannah State University, has researched and documented violent crime in Savannah, both in comparison with other cities and in light of reasonable expectations for crime reduction in our area. Click here to read the Savannah Morning News article inspired by this research. The article, written by Bret Bell, discusses Dr. Lockwood’s interpretation of the current crime situation, and steps we can all take towards its assessment & improvement.

The paper & research discussed in the article and authored by Dr. Lockwood can be viewed by clicking here. The thesis of his work defines Savannah Murder & Robbery Rates, and examines the statistics while answering questions concerning the rate of violent crime in Savannah and its variation / constancy over the years. It puts forth statements that require our attention, and supports its assertions with tested & proven methodologies.

Please take the time to review these educational materials and important statistics, and send any comments / ideas to martinsullivan@saveoursavannah.comor rebecca@saveoursavannah.com. We all have a responsibility to stay educated on these issues, and to examine the facts in order to make informed decisions & to most efficiently identify our individual roles in helping to decrease the crime in Savannah.
