SAVE OUR SAVANNAH
Working Toward a Safer Savannah for Everyone, Everywhere, Everyday
Article 38 June 1, 2006
Dear SOS Members & Friends:
Save Our Savannah and the Ardsley Park Neighborhood Association are happy to sponsor a crime prevention presentation, with speaker Dr. Dan Lockwood, Savannah State University Professor of Criminal Justice, on June 14th, 2006 at 5:30 pm.
Dr. Lockwood will be presenting “Scientific Methods for Determining What Works in Crime Prevention, and will focus on arming citizens with the tools necessary for the interpretation of and participation in crime prevention methods in Savannah & Chatham County. The talk will review ways to scientifically decide on crime prevention programs, policies, and strategies, but the primary goal of the seminar is to help participants themselves to critically assess programs for crime prevention, and to draw their own conclusions from the available research. Through this educational opportunity, every citizen can gain a better understanding of the crime discussion in our community, and we can better our chances of developing efficient crime prevention techniques and programs.
This meeting will be held:
June 14, 2006
5:30 pm
A special thanks to the Savannah Desoto Hilton for allowing us to use their facilities for this event.
Please take a moment to review the press release and the flyer for the presentation, which can both be viewed via our website. It would be a great service to the organization and to the community for all members & friends to post the flyer in an open area, where it can be visible to all Savannah / Chatham residents. Please spread the word, as we would like to promote the participation of the entire community in these issues. If you have any other ideas or services you feel you can provide for this event, or if you would like to volunteer, please email rebecca@saveoursavannah.com, or call 912.961.8882 with any questions.
Dr. Daniel Lockwood is a professor of Criminal Justice at Savannah State University. He received his Ph.D. from the State University of New York at Albany, School of Criminal Justice, in 1977. He is the author of a book and many articles and book chapters on violence and crime prevention. He currently conducts research on violence in Savannah and is a member of Save Our Savannah.
Thanks, and we look forward to seeing you all on the 14th!
