SAVE OUR SAVANNAH
Working Toward a Safer Savannah for Everyone, Everywhere, Everyday
Dear Members:
Active member Jeanne Seaver has requested our help in persuading Governor Sonny Perdue to return to Chatham County millions of dollars in state funds that belong in our budget. Please take the time to read both her plea to the community to take action, and, following that, her letter to the governor, which you should be encouraged to sign & send under your own name. (CLICK HERE to access a copy of the letter in WORD format.)
Again, the name of the game is community, and unified response / action to current issues. Please take a moment to support a request that could go a long way in our fight for public safety.
Thanks, and have a great Fourth of July holiday weekend!
Becky

Our elected officials have done what they can and it is up to us to do what we are obligated to do. I am begging for everyone to please just take 5 minutes out of your life to make a difference and do what ever it takes to keep this community and our families safe.
You can also fax the letter directly to the Governor’s executive office at 404-656-5948.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions @ 912-663-8728.

LETTER FROM JEANNE SEAVER TO THE GOVERNOR:
June 28, 2006
PERSONAL & CONFIDENTIAL
Honorable Sonny Perdue Office of the Governor Georgia State Capitol Atlanta, GA 30334
Re: Funding Returned to Chatham County for State Prisoners
Dear Governor Perdue:
I hope all is well with you and your family.
I am witting this letter as an attempt to call attention to the reimbursement of State Prisoners in Chatham County. I was informed last night at a Public Hearing regarding our tax digest, held by our County Commissioners, that the State owes us (us meaning Chatham County taxpayers), millions of dollars. We are in the process of deciding whether or not to raise our millage rate. We were told that several of our County Commissioners, Sheriff and other elected officials have presented this to you to no avail. We need to expand our jail and there is a possibility of raising our taxes to accomplish keeping your constituents of Georgia safe. This doesn’t make sense to me. We can provide millions of dollars for funding of parks, marine studies, 300 million to the DJJ which is not doing a very good job to protect and rehabilitate. Just to name a few of many. I would think public safety would be your top priority. It is difficult to provide the needs of Chatham County, like higher salaries for the police officers that put their lives on the line every day for us, expansion of Savannah Impact Program, Park Place for Truancy, more social workers and counselors in schools to focus on educating our children on what it takes to fulfill your goals and dreams for their future, funding for prevention programs for juveniles on the local level with accountability, assist our Independent Juvenile Court Judges on their wants and needs to get their job done. If we had the money the State owes us then we could be accomplishing more for all the citizens of Chatham, rich or poor, black or white.
I am asking you to please take to heart this letter and try to come up with some other budget cut or reallocation to give back not just Chatham County but all the Counties in Georgia that the State owes reimbursement to. We also need to get these State prisoners out of our jail.
Ones that know me know that I don’t go away easily, and there will be more letters to come after mine.
Thank you for your time and look forward to hearing from you soon.
Sincerely yours,
Jeanne Seaver
